Scholarships for KU Student Housing Residents

Students residing in facilities operated by the Department of Student Housing are individually eligible for financial aid packages administered through the operational procedures of the Office of Student Financial Aid and/or the Office of Admissions and Scholarships.

In collaboration with these two offices, a number of additional scholarships are administered that are restricted to residents of the scholarship halls or other facilities operated by the Department of Student Housing. The number of scholarships available is dependent on annual earnings of the principal balance in these accounts which continues to grow as contributions are received. These individual scholarship funds are detailed on this web site.

Scholarships for Scholarship Hall Residents

The scholarship hall system at the University of Kansas provides an invigorating and supportive residential experience for nearly 550 talented students each year. The traditions of the "Schol Halls" reflect the residents' commitment to excellence, proud history of leadership accomplishments, outstanding contributions to the university community, and most importantly, the unique spirit of "cooperativeness" which has become the hallmark of the scholarship halls.

An effort to fully endow scholarship funds restricted to the residents of the scholarship hall system was initiated by alumni, residents, friends, and the staff of the Department of Student Housing several years ago. The success of this endeavor has been noteworthy and now provides continuing financial support and recognition to outstanding residents who demonstrate their commitment to cooperative living, exhibit academic success, and contribute to student government. These scholarships augment the unique living experience provided by the scholarship halls and the many achievements of their residents.

A permanent or fully-endowed scholarship fund requires a minimum principal balance of $30,000. This financial base allows the award of one or more scholarships per academic year from investment of the principal by the Kansas University Endowment Association. As contributions supplement the principal of each fund, the scholarship value and/or the number of scholarships are increased.

Additionally, contributions may be made to the KU Schol Halls Commitment Scholarship. As an expendable fund, financial contributions annually are made available to selected students who receive an offer to live in the scholarship halls. The scholarships help support KU students making the commitment to the cooperative ideals and spirit of belonging of the scholarship halls.

The officers of the All Scholarship Hall Council are continuing their efforts to expand the number of distinct scholarships available to the students in the eleven scholarship halls. An alphabetical listing of the current scholarship funds appears in the left margin of this document. The scholarship halls at the University of Kansas continue to benefit from the many alumni and friends who have generously contributed to these scholarship funds. These gifts have been instrumental in realizing the goals established by the residents of the halls and are critical to the promise of building on the fine tradition of excellence within the scholarship hall system.

We invite you to use the contribution/pledge form either to supplement the principal of one of these existing funds or to establish a new "named" scholarship fund.
