Scholarship Halls for Women
KU's Dennis E. Rieger Scholarship Hall opened its doors in 2005. This building houses about 50 women and features some traditional 2-person rooms (sharing a small community bath) along with 4-person suites. The women of Dennis E. Rieger have established some hall traditions such as "Fireplace Chats" and father-daughter weekends. Rieger is a twin building with the adjacent scholarship hall, Krehbiel Hall, which opened in 2008. The hall is "green" and features a quiet, energy-efficient geothermal heating and cooling unit and was designed to blend in with the neighborhood's turn of the century homes.

Women in Douthart have a knack for involvement. They’re active in the All Scholarship Hall Council and other campus activities. “Schol-Hollywood” is a popular spring event. The women also sponsor “Romp in the Hay” in the fall and a farewell banquet in May. The women share 4-person rooms and this is the only schol hall with a storage room named “Henry."

The women of "Maggie" host the "Full Moon Party," a Mardi Gras celebration and "Tea Time." Margaret Amini also features four-person suites with adjoining baths and cable TV outlets in resident rooms.

New women are assigned a “big sister” to help adjust to college life and learn long-held Miller traditions such as the annual Alumni Tea, the “Joe’s Place” party (started in the 1930s), Miller-Watkins Tribute Night, and a “Murder Mystery Dinner." As in Watkins, monthly kitchen fees are determined by residents who are each assigned to one of seven small kitchens.

Sellards is arranged with a single large kitchen and dining room, living area, and 4-person rooms. Sellards women organize and host the International Dinner each year, an excellent event which features food and programs from a specific country. In addition, Sellards hosts annual “Retro” and “Tropical” parties. Sellards women are active in the All Scholarship Hall Council, community, and campus activities.

Watkins opened in 1926 as the first of KU’s scholarship halls and maintains strong bonds with alumnae by hosting an annual spring tea. Long-time traditions such as “candlelightings” and a “Heaven and Hell” party have been revitalized, while new traditions provide opportunities for innovation. Monthly kitchen fees are determined by the residents themselves.
