Undergraduate Live-In Positions

Applications for all of our undergraduate live-in positions for the 2010-2011 academic year will be available in November 2009.

Resident Assistant (RA)

Resident Assistants (residence halls and apartment living) hold academic year positions. They perform administrative, programming, and paraprofessional advising/facilitating functions for their residents and for the community in general, working under supervision of an Assistant Complex Director and Complex Director.

Scholarship Hall Proctor

Proctors hold academic year positions and work with residents, hall officers, and campus staff to provide effective leadership and build a cooperative group with high personal and academic standards. Proctors work closely with their Scholarship Hall Directors and Complex Director.

Food Board Manager

Food Board Managers hold academic year positions working with residents, the Proctor, Scholarship Hall Director and hall officers to provide quality meals and a healthy and safe food preparation and dining area. These students oversee cooking shifts in the hall and are supervised by the Scholarship Hall Director.

Residence Hall Desk Managers

Desk Managers hold academic year, 16 hours per week, live-in positions and oversee front desk and building security operations.

Assistant Complex Director (ACD)

ACDs are part of the senior leadership team in each residential complex at KU and are involved in the day-to-day management and operation of community housing between 500 and 950 residents.

Scholarship Hall Director (SHD)

KU has 12 “Scholarship Halls” – small, inexpensive, cooperative living groups housing about 50 undergraduate men or women. SHDs manage 2 buildings each, directly responsible for management, advising, and programs.

Professional Positions

Residence Life Complex Director (CD)

Each CD is a full-time member of the DSH professional staff, supervising graduate students and managing student personnel aspects of a residential area housing between 500 and 950 students. Complexes vary in physical size, structure, student population, and programmatic emphasis. Explore the possibility of working at KU in a professional position with the Department of Student Housing. Student Hourly Positions

On average, students work 15 hours each week based on class schedules. All student hourly positions in Student Housing are posted at the KU employment information site, www.ku.edu/employment, and you can apply on-line any time.

Academic Resource Center Assistant

These students work in the Academic Resource Center to supervise check-out and return of library items and assist with educational programming throughout the year.

Custodial Assistant

These students help our housekeeping staff with general cleaning, furniture moving, floor care, room set-up, and so-forth. Custodial positions generally start at a higher pay rate.

Skilled Trades Assistant

Housing maintenance hires students to work with skilled trades persons in carpentry, electrical, air conditioning, plumbing, landscape, painting, and special services – starting at a higher pay rate.

Desk Assistant/Security Monitor

Duties include answering the telephone, answering questions, checking-out hall equipment, issuing keys, distributing mail, making copies, coordinating hall tours, responding to emergencies, security and building safety duties, and more.
